::The Dept. of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering starts its journey at BUET in 1971. The program of study in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering covers the diversified range starting from ships hulls to exploration of opportunities for harnessing all kinds of resources from the sea. Such topics as the form, strength, stability, sea keeping qualities, resistance and propulsion of ships, economic aspects of ship design and ship operation and many courses of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering and metallurgical engineering are covered. Other subjects of concerns are fundamental of the physical sciences and mathematics, Humanities and Social sciences. Since the design of modern ship or any marine system of whatever configuration or function encompasses many engineering fields, graduates of this department are called upon to handle diverse professional responsibilities.  The naval architecture and marine engineering is a complete engineering. A naval architect and marine engineer must have knowledge on aesthetics like an architect, structure like a civil engineer, propelling machineries like a mechanical engineer, power generation, shipboard electrical equipment like an electrical engineer, computation like a computer engineer, material properties like a material and metallurgical engineer, industrial management like an industrial production engineer, marine pollution like an environmental engineer etc. A ship is just like a floating city. So everything which is required in a city, must be present in a ship. For this reason, if you want to be a complete engineer, you must choose naval architecture and marine engineering for your prospective career in Bangladesh and abroad. The department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering has been awarded three sub-projects under HEQEP, UGC, i.e., CP#2083,& CP# 2084
