::Modern operation theatre building. Establishment of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University was an upgrade of the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine and Research (IPGMR). IPGMR was established in December 1965, as a Government-controlled postgraduate institute for medical research and studies. It was housed in the now defunct Hotel Shahbag, once the biggest hotel in Dhaka. The neighbourhood got its name Shahbag from the name of the hotel. From 2010, many of the medical and public health colleges/institutes have become affiliated to BSMMU. For example, BIRDEM, BIHS, DMC, NICVD, NITOR and others. Many foreigners, notably from Nepal and Bhutan, study at the university. It was renamed as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University by the Act 1, 1998 of Jatiyo Sangshad after the first President of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

::The cabin block has cabins of five floor. The cabins are spacious.... clean....and having good service like a corporate hospital. In the first floor you will get service from MRI department. Alltime doctors available. Nurses are skilled. In the 6th floor,there is ICU with all modern facility. In 7th floor,there is HDU and postoperative riom. In 8th 9th and 10th floor there are modern operation theatre with all facility.

::It's the cabin block region of the university. But in this block there are also ICU at 6th floor. HDU and Post op care at 7th floor. OT at 8th 9th 10th floor. Seat capacity is limited here comprises general, special, vvi, vvip cabin.
