  Background of the Establishment of the University: The Islamic University of Technology (IUT) started its journey as a university in 2001. It was initially established with the name Islamic Centre for Technical Vocational Training and Research (ICTVTR) with the status of a subsidiary organ of the OIC in pursuance of the resolution No. 5/9-E of the Ninth Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers held in Dakar, Senegal in 1978. The foundation stone of the institution was laid in March 1981 at Board Bazar, Gazipur, Bangladesh, 30 km north of the capital city Dhaka.After completion of the construction work, its academic programs started from the session 1986-1987. As per its statute, IUT has the commitment to develop human resources, particularly in different branches of science, engineering, technology and technical education to support social and economic upliftment of the member states of the OIC by trying to achieve academic excellence through dissemination, creation and application of knowledge in an Islamic environment.
