  Bangladesh chapter of Asian Development Bank. One of the biggest development partner of Bangladesh. Head office of ADB is in Manila, Philippines. The organisation provides soft loan, hard loan and donation to the Government projects and to the NGOs. Bangladesh is also one of the important member of this Bank.

  The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is a regional development bank established on 19 December 1966, which is headquartered in the Ortigas Center located in the city of Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, Philippines. The company also maintains 31 field offices around the world to promote social and economic development in Asia. The bank admits the members of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP, formerly the Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East or ECAFE) and non-regional developed countries. From 31 members at its establishment, ADB now has 67 members, of which 48 are from within Asia and the Pacific and 19 outside. Since 1973, Bangladesh is the member of ADB. Its Bangladesh office is located at Syed Mahbub Murshed Sharani, Agagrgaon, Dhaka (opposit of Bangladesh Betar).

  Asian Development Bank - Bangladesh Office ADB History The Asian Development Bank was conceived in the early 1960s as a financial institution that would be Asian in character and foster economic growth and cooperation in one of the poorest regions in the world. A resolution passed at the first Ministerial Conference on Asian Economic Cooperation held by the United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East in 1963 set that vision on the way to becoming reality. The Philippines capital of Manila was chosen to host the new institution, which opened on 19 December 1966, with 31 members that came together to serve a predominantly agricultural region. Takeshi Watanabe was ADB's first President. During the 1960s, ADB focused much of its assistance on food production and rural development. Board of Governors ADB's highest policy-making body is the Board of Governors, which comprises one representative from each member nation – 48 from the Asia-Pacific and 19 from outside the region. More Board of Directors The Governors elect 12 members to form the Board of Directors, which performs its duties full time at the ADB headquarters. The Directors supervise ADB's financial statements, approve its administrative budget, and review and approve all policy documents and all loan, equity, and technical assistance operations. More Management The ADB President chairs the Board of Directors and heads a management team comprising six Vice-Presidents, who supervise the work of ADB's operational, administrative, and knowledge departments. More Why does ADB promote social development? While hundreds of millions of people in Asia have benefited from economic growth, millions have been left behind and remain desperately poor. Social development directly targets the poor for assistance and support. It helps people benefit from economic growth and access basic government services. Social protection also provides a safety net for the poorest who have yet to gain from a country’s economic growth. What kind of social development projects does ADB support? ADB supports social protection programs such as government pensions, cash assistance for poor families with children, and national health care systems. In the Philippines, for example, more than four million poor households receive ADB-supported cash grants if they keep their children in school and meet other conditions. Many infrastructure projects have strong social development components. As well as promoting growth, the Jamuna Bridge project in Bangladesh gave more than 30 million people in the poorer western side access to the main transport and infrastructure network in the east.

  This is Dhaka zonal office of ADB. This bank has some projects in bangladesh that is very supportive for BD. These projects are Enhancement of Power system, Enhancement of institutional capacity of anti corruption commission, primary education development etc.
